In the early morning hours of March 18, 1990 two thieves entered the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, Massachusetts. When they left 81 minutes later they had stolen over 500 million dollars worth of fine art including the above eight paintings. Due to the nature of Mrs. Gardner’s will the museum is unable to alter her collection; this means there are empty frames where the stolen artworks were once placed. The case is still unsolved. You may never see this artwork in person. (Click a painting to get a better look and more info)
